The Department of Computer Engineering and Automation (DCA) of Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) was created on May 1991 with the inauguration of the Laboratory of Computer Engineering and Automation (LECA). At the time it was part of the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE) of UFRN. In October 2001, the DCA became an autonomous department. Currently, besides the LECA, the Laboratory of Automation in Oil (LAUT) and the Laboratory of Oil Evaluation and Measurement (LAMP) are part of the DCA.
The mission of Department of Computer Engineering and Automation (DCA) is to educate, produce and spread high quality technological and scientific knowledge in computing and automation, by promoting the construction of critical thinking committed to ethics, sustainable development, democracy and social justice.
The faculty of Department of Computer Engineering and Automation (DCA) is composed of 25 professors. They support undergraduate courses in Computer Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Science and Technology, and also Post-Graduate Programs in Electrical and Computing Engineering (PPgEEC), Mechatronics Engineering (PEM), and Professional Master of Electrical Energy (MPEE).
